Breaking all stereotypes, Nitin Mehta, a 45-year-old Army veteran, turned into a model walks the ramp for Gauri Couture and Dhruv Bhandwal at Asian Designer Week fall/winter season. The much talked about fashion event, that was recently held in Delhi got highlighted by the presence of this man who walked the ramp fearlessly with his timeless elegance and charm, despite his age and background. He walked in a classic white sherwani for Gauri Couture and donned an embroidered beige blazer with similar colored trousers and a red shirt which complemented his personality pretty well.
We caught him while he was not busy turning the heads and had a little chit chat about how he got into the glamor world after serving the Indian Army. Read below the full interview-
Q-For how long you have served Indian Army?
NM- I have served Indian army for 21 years. I am a mechanical engineer by profession and a specialist in the maintenance of helicopters.
Q-I’m sure you were clean shaved while working in Indian Army, so how did you work on your current look?
NM- Yes true! In May 2016, I started to grow a beard just to see how it looks on me and I discovered that it was working for me so I kept this look. Later on, somebody approached me at the airport for a short film, however, that project didn’t happen but it sure opened up my horizon.
Q- So what was your biggest motivation to step into the glamor world?
NM- My wife and my son! After I started getting noticed for my looks, my wife and son arranged a portfolio shoot for me which grabbed attention from many media houses and I started getting projects.
Q- How’s your experience in the fashion industry as of now?
NM- My experience so far has been amazing here and I’m loving what I do. It’s an exciting field.
Q- Do you have any plans to enter the TV or Bollywood industry as well? I’m sure people would love to see you on screen.
NM-Yes why not. If I get some good opportunity I would love to work on screen.
I wind up the interview as he asks me where I’m from while I reply, Jalandhar and he excitedly tells me that it’s a lovely place and he has lived her for 3 years. In fact, he also did his schooling from St Joseph School and SD model school Jalandhar. “All the best for for future projects”, I say and he wishes me the same as we leave.
